Hello! I retired from a day-job career I had for 25 years in order to become a full-time artist. I always want to be an artist, but in my youth I didn't see it as practical. Instead I pursued a career in engineering. How foolish I was. I love to draw and paint in many styles mostly classical drawing and traditional watercolor painting. I didn't attend a formal art school, but have sought out mentors and taken workshops. I was studying with a painter who taught me how to draw/paint classically in charcoal/oil. I think that is the closest I will get to learning painting in Florence, where he was trained.

Since retirement, I painted in watercolor, mainly landscapes and still life. I have taken a few workshops. I love watercolor because I could paint travel sketchbooks. I wanted to advance my painting style and decided that if I really want to learn quickly and without developing bad habits, that it is best to seek out one-on-one teachers. This was the main reason for taking the Watercolor Academy Correspondence Course.

I am interested in learning various watercolor painting techniques and I'm so excited that this academy gives me the opportunity to study this. My drawing ability is very poor, so I'm also thinking of taking the Life Drawing Academy course as well.

I really want to pursue this new career and make meaningful art that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also accurate. I want to learn everything about watercolor from the very beginning because I've never had any formal art education and need to build the foundations first.
