Story and artworks from Dean Eisen, Correspondence Course student
Hi,
My name is Dean Eisen and I am a student of the Watercolor Academy Correspondence Course.
I'm 72 years old and a retired photographer. I started painting two years ago . Until then, I have not done anything concerning art for over 50 years. Since then, I have taken courses by local artists here in my hometown, and studied several self-taught books for my art. Well, I feel that I've accomplished a lot in the last two years; I felt I reached a point where I needed some guidance in order to get to another level, and in looking to what was available to me, I chose the Watercolor Academy. It has been a fantastic choice. I highly recommend this course to anybody who wishes to improve on their skills, but especially if they wish to make art their career. This course is very comprehensive, and I have only been receiving assignments now since about January, but I feel my watercolor has already improved.
If you do take the Correspondence Course, be prepared to put in some work. That's the only way you're gonna get better. And I'm very excited about the steps that the Watercolor Academy has aboard. They are very responsive and willing to work with you in whatever capacity necessary in order for you to learn. They are very responsive even though the Academy is in a six hour time zone than where I live, I get responses to my questions or my assignments, or critique, and I usually get the results within 24 hours from the time I submit the materials to them.
Again, this is a fantastic course for those who wish to make a career out of art or really wish to improve their watercolor skills. In fact, since I've taken this course, I have already sold three paintings, although this is not my main objective. I hope that this critique of the Academy helps you in your decision making and I wish you all the best luck in your art career!
Painting of Castle Combe, Wiltshire, England
This painting just won an honorable mention in our local competition. I wasn't expecting to place at all, because of what happened just before the competition.
Since attending the Watercolor Academy I have been fortunate enough to sell a few of my watercolor paintings. This along with the Improvement of my work, moved my entry up to the skilled artist division. This meant that I was competing against artists who had art degrees, had made a living in the art field or had painted all of their lives. In other words I had to compete with the best artists in the area. With less than three years of experience I really thought that I didn't have chance.
