Feedback on Watercolor Academy from Sasha, Academy student
I'm discovering and learning new things in every task. My curriculum is amazing and I love this course!
Hello, my name is Sasha. I used to draw and paint as a little child. I attended a short art course for children, but I have never had any formal art education. I've always found it challenging to draw from my imagination. It seems, I always need some picture reference to copy from. Right now I enjoy drawing different objects from life and trying to create simple still life compositions.
I've always wanted to draw and paint animals and landscapes as well. My favorite style of art is realism. I really like historical and mythological themes in paintings. My favorite artists are Ilya Repin, Viktor Vasnetsov, John William Waterhouse, and of course, Leonardo da Vinci.
My goal is to create my own art, exhibit and live from it since that's my inspiration. I'm glad I found the Watercolor Academy and I was relieved to discover that there is a coaching course too, which I'm having now. I'm willing to put in the hard work to acquire strong painting skills.
Before this watercolor course, I really thought that there are only two ways to paint in watercolor - wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry alla prima. This shows my ignorance despite I've been painting for years.
These two sketches are exercises, which I do according to my curriculum. When my teachers proposed it to me, I was overwhelmed a bit. It has 100 tasks on various watercolor topics, color theory, composition, etc. There are many things completely new to me, like grisaile, golden ratio, making an artwork with only two or three pigments.
I already see the value of such exercises. Before this course, I was going for every watercolor paint I could find and then having troubles deciding which paint to use. The biggest discovery for me so far is that a multicolored painting can be done with only three pigments. All other colors can be mixed from yellow, red, and blue. I no longer waste money on paints, but invest in good quality paper. This was another useful tip I received in this course. When the tutor told me to use 100% cotton paper, I wasn't convinced, it is too expensive for making disposable sketches. That what I thought until I tested and saw the results. I can make a picture with the cheapest watercolor paint and it will look good as long as I'm using good paper. I'm discovering and learning new things in every task. My curriculum is amazing and I love this course!
