I'm an art enthusiast who loves painting and enjoys reading about art. I work and educate myself as an engineer, but I have a burning desire to paint and draw what I see around. I also paint from imagination. Hours I spend painting bring real satisfaction.

Although engineering and art are very different activities, I see a how these two careers aid one another. That's why I chose to dedicate myself in absorbing technical and artistic things I want to learn about.

I studied for about two months with one artist that taught me a little about alla prima oil painting and gave me advice about painting still life and landscapes, often plein air. Before long I decided to try painting portraits and figures, which I consider to be my ultimate goal. Still life is a good learning tool, but landscape painting is something I'm really enjoying. I understand that I have to developed a strong discipline in drawing prior to painting. Yet, fluid and airy landscape genre "forgive" my lack of drawing skills and allow me to express what I want to say in art - this world can be a better place with the skills we learn and things we do.

Before taking the Watercolor Academy course, I knew very little about this medium apart that it dries fast and therefore is perfectly suitable for plein air painting, which is what I wanted to do. I remember my disappointment when first landscapes I painted in watercolor came out as children doodles. I still have a long way to go and consider my art pretty amateurish. But since I enrolled in the Watercolor Academy, I have already learned a lot and the difference between my first attempts and current artworks is remarkable. My art skills are noticeably getting better with every painting task I do.

I would like to say thank you to the academy tutors who made this course available for students like me. Working full time as an engineer, going to an art college was out of question and with your help I can finally learn new skills and engage into my other world - watercolor painting.

Best regards,
Jeff Wilson
