I am recently retired with time to now enjoy a passion I have had my whole life - drawing and painting with watercolors.

I believe my love for art comes from my mother who comes from a family of one brother and nine sisters. All siblings have artistic talents from growing plants or vegetables, crocheting and knitting, to painting different genres. I was always intrigued by my aunt who painted oils.

As a child, I enjoyed sketching a plain design, then painting with watercolors. I was even confident to enter my paintings in the County Fair. I remember receiving a second-place ribbon on one painting of a little girl and her dog. I did not pursue art as I went into college, I only enjoyed dabbling occasionally in my spare time.

Since retiring four years ago, I sketch or work on watercolor paintings as a daily activity to improve my skills. I will watch a beginner's watercolor YouTube video and practice. My challenges are perspective, controlling water vs paint, and I cannot get my head around color theory. For some reason, I enjoy painting shadows.

My watercolor skills have improved through practice, but studying with Watercolor Academy would help me take them to the next level. That is why I hope to win the Watercolor Academy course. I am proud of the work I have created so far, and I know I can grow even more by learning from professionals. Friends, family, and the public should vote for me because I have the potential to keep improving.

The attached painting was a Father's Day gift for my husband after one of our Boxers passed away.
