My passion for art

My name is Peggy M. McAloon. I have been retired from a long career in commercial credit for over a decade. A few years ago, my sister-in-law invited me to attend a meeting with her art group. I tried to explain that I had never had any instruction in art, but she insisted I go.
I argued, remembering that the same Christmas, my brother received an easel, oil paints, canvases, and brushes, while I received a coloring book and crayons. The minute I sat down with her group and saw how the watercolor paint reacted to water, I was hooked.
My passion for art increased dramatically since recently. It was liberating to be able to create while the world stood still. I searched old photos of past vacations for inspiration to paint. Portraits were probably the most challenging, and I'm still not good at that.
Of all the paintings I've done as an untrained wanna-be artist, my favorite is the picture of the Castel Sant'Angelo from our trip to Italy. I've loved Italy and its history since I was a small child. From her lake's region to the vineyards, I find inspiration and a love of nature and architecture unequaled in any other place.
My biggest challenge in painting is to release the detail and create a vision of what I want the viewer to see in their mind. Could you give me directions to get this one right? My eyes appear to see every single detail, and it's beyond time I perfect a better method.
I believe Watercolor Academy can help me reach that goal.
My next biggest challenge is creating trees, bushes, and depth in a landscape painting.
I would love to win the competition and learn from some of the greatest teachers available. I long for the day when I can consider myself a real artist and no longer remember the crayons and the loss of courage to follow my passion.
