I have always enjoyed doing art from a young age. I remember as a little girl I would draw ballerinas and ladies with large ball gowns. I used to also write a lot of poems and stories as a teenager.
My grandmother would be the biggest influence I've had with engaging in art. She was a high school art teacher and when I was little I would visit her during the school holidays. During this time I have memories of her taking my cousin and I to coastal scenes where she lived and she would encouraged us to paint the scene with her. I also remember her taking me to her art exhibitions and galleries. She mainly painted with acrylics and I still have some of her paintings in my house today.
As a young adult I didn't have much time for art as I was working full time as an early childood teacher and studying. I then developed a medical injury and was unable to further work or study. I then decided to find ways to help my recovery by engaging in art again. After spending fifteen years in the early childhood industry I decided to write a children's book but I didn't have the drawing skills or know how to illustrate it. I first I tried to teach myself how to draw by doing simple portraits and sketching animals and still life objects but I found it quite difficult as drawing is the one skill I need to improve on. I then discovered watercolour painting in June 2024 and wanted to learn more about it so I followed a few well known artist and have been doing their tutorials since then. I have learnt a lot from them but I would also like to learn from many other artist and learn their different styles.
The challenges I have with art? I find drawing the most difficult. Particularly when I try to draw a scene such as a landscape, I struggling with getting the perspective and angles in the right position. In watercolour I struggle with trying to achieve light and dark tones.
I want to learn the theory, use of materials and techniques to enhance my drawing and painting skills.
The Watercolor Academy appeals to me for many reasons. It covers all the aspects that I'm trying to learn to enhance my artwork. It also has a range of artist with different styles that I would like to learn from. It also has experienced people that can give you feedback and guidance on your art which is what I need.
I want to win the watercolor course as I especially find watercolour fascinating in the way that you can use many techniques to create something beautiful and life like from a flat piece of paper. I want to further learn these techniques so I can continue my art journey. I think people should vote for me as I find art very therapeutic and rewarding. It has been very beneficial in my recovery. In addition it will help me with my future goals and projects in art that I would like to achieve.
